Week 8

This week we have been introduced to the principles of the animation and we were advised to read some of the books that they have posted on the power point. We found out that timing is very important when it comes to animation because it refers to drawings of frames for the specific given action, which translates to the speed of the actual act.

We learned about spacing and we were shown that spacing means that where the object might be in each frame. We learned that spacing can be very impactful and important when it comes to animation because it usually just give an illusion of things like acceleration of a certain thing or object.

We were told about the different frames per second and how much of them different things that are relevant to us use. Things like film use 24 fps, tv uses 25 fps, Us Tv uses 30 fps and most of the games use 30 fps. Wee discussed about how different seconds in each frame can change the fluidity of the animation. This means in how many numbers are the frames drawn. We were taught that all of these 1s, 2s and 3s can often be mixed when it comes to modern animation. It always depends on the tryings you’re trying to do. The golden rule that we were told was that usually all of the fast actions will be on 1’s and everything else would either be on 2’s or 3’s.

We learned about the 12 principles of animation and we all discussed it inside the class.

Sarah then took us to a different room and educated us on Animate CC and how you can use different shapes and animating them. We then were given a task which was just to play around with a ball and trying to animate it was something different. I found it really fun, but also challenging because I never really animated something like that or even used that application.

These are some of the screenshots of the first bouncing balls that I did. I think it worked out great at the very end and I was able to animate the ball in the very end.

These are only the screenshots of the bouncing ball that I took at the end of the class because I wasn’t able to make them into gifs and I couldn’t find out why either.

I decided to keep this inside my head and see if I could do it later on while trying out different methods because I didn’t really Animate CC, maybe because it was just too simple when it comes to animating and I wanted something more.

I have also look up some videos to do with animations to try to get a better feeling and understanding on whats important when it comes to animating anything in the world.

All of these videos gave me a better understanding of why animation is so important and different principles that it has so that who ever is animating is able to make a good animation.

I then also decided to read some paragraphs from the Chapters 4 from Richards Williams – The animators Survival Kit that has been advised to us to read over and see if you can find anything useful and interesting.

After I read it a bit I have found out that the timing and spacing of the object or a thing is the most important thing when it comes to animation because without them it just does not look right.

After watching some of these videos and reading some of the paragraphs from the Chapter 4 I have decided to try out animating the bouncing ball again and trying to include some of the parts from the videos that might make it more easier to get everything together. The bad part about this was that I didn’t really like Animate cc so I have decided to look for alternatives and maybe explore some of the options for animating a couple of the balls.

I have looked up a couple of videos on how to animate on photoshop and how to follow up different frames and make them into objects like on Animate cc. I looked up the easiest way to animate one Photoshop wasn’t one of the candidates, even so I was learning about photoshop for a whole so this was an opportunity for me to find out about animating inside of the application.

When I started animating on photoshop, at least trying to I thought its just going to be just like Animate CC, but trust me I was wrong because at first I couldn’t really understand the layers and how they interacted with each of the balls that I was drawing. I also had to manually draw the balls because I couldn’t find the tool to draw the circles so that was another issue I was having. I actually started laughing at myself because I choose to animate on Photoshop myself, but I couldn’t back out now. I have had so many issues with the actual interface and then finding everything thats needed to start animating something. After a whee while i think I sort of got the hang of it and I tried animating the different weight balls. I just have to mention that Animate CC is definitely easier to understand I shouldn’t have taken such a big step. So this is the results of me animating a couple of balls with Photoshop.

As you can see that this is my first attempt at actually animating a ball on Photoshop, which was definitely a challenge for me, but I pulled myself together and came up with a plastic ball.

This was my second attempt at animating a ball. We were told to pick different weights and this one is supposed to be a tennis ball because they don’t really bounce off which made the process a little easier.

This was the last ball that I have animated in the Photoshop and I very happy with it. This one is supposed to be like a little bouncy ball. I really liked animating this one because of the onion skins since we learned about them in class which kind of gave me an advantage over Photoshop.

When it came to Photoshop it was definitely a challenge for me because I wasn’t really advised on animating with Photoshop because it definitely is a little complicated, but I wanted to try and see how it would work out. I am definitely happy with the results and now I am a little more familiar with the animating on photoshop that could come in handy later on in the semester.
