This week we face we had a recap about composition and what we talked about in the last class which was really good because it refreshed your knowledge on different compositions and ways of capturing images. We have just played around with different shades with our pencils.

We then had a class where we discussed about tone and tonal value or just the value itself. We learned the definition of the tone and what it means in terms of art. It pretty much refers to the degree of lightness or darkness of a certain area. It can also just mean colour which means hue in another words.
This is some of the shading and tone that I have did and I really liked how it turned out. This was a fun activity in the class because were asked to take one of the composition from somebody else and shade it in and make it have some depth and tone. The pointing hand is something that I did at home by looking at the shading tutorial for hands. I think it came out amazing and it looks really realistic. It took a bit of time because I couldn’t get the hang of shading at first, but the tutorial definitely helped.

To make it easy for us, we were just told to refer to this as just value of an image, even though all of the above also applies.

We learned that value is very important and fundamental to the work because it allows us to change different things into form and make it look realistic. We also learned that by adding value to certain imagery you are adding depth to the imagery which make the design look really good.
We learned about how a change in value can easily change the form quickly. We learned about different sides of the light can how it can be used to change the form of an object. Then we learned about the shadow side of the different forms and how can it be adjusted if it has shadows.
Alec and Sarah have showed us some good examples and ways of shading things in which was really useful for me because I never really looked at the objects differently.
What I didn’t like is that I was changed into another group this week and the group was crystal world. I wasn’t ready to leave the other group yet, but it had to be done. When I have joined this group we discussed about their world and what the story is and the two members that were already were in the group said that they don’t really like the last story so they said we will change it as we go along because it wasn’t clear what we wanted the story to be. We then discussed about the value that our worlds could have and we talked to each other how some of the value might look in the world.
This week we also talked a lot about how value can be so important to give depth and and importance to different designs out there. We talked about how two toned designs are very popular when it comes to artists because they are able to come up with amazing designs and styles with just two colours white and black. i thought that was really impressive and I had to research some more of the two toned style.

These references really inspired me because it showed me how easy it can be to create different designs with just two tones and I think that is pretty cool. After we have talked about the tone and more about the value we got to do the exercise which I was excited about because I knew I could use some of the references to maybe try to incorporate some of the style.

This was very different because I tried my best using just two different shades of the pencil to see if I can come up with designs for myself, but just using a couple of the designs. I think it worked out pretty well for me in the end and I was really happy with the end results because I tried my best.
We then discussed about different value that our worst could maybe have and how it might look. We all agreed to sketch something on our sketchbooks or digitally and share them with each other next week. These are the value tones that I came up for our world while also combining it with our homework.
I have drew a few designs at home thinking about our game world and how i might be able to put in inside tonality, our game world is pretty much about aliens and crystals and the world that is being targeted by different creatures to attack the queen. So i have drew a couple of compositions while thinking about different elements that our world might be able to use. I then took a bigger approach to one of the compositions that I had made and also remembered all the research I did about the two toned style and I designed a few of the creatures inside a cave as shadows. This was really fun to work on. I want to revisit shading at some point because It is not as easy as you would think and I want to improve on shading when it comes to anything. I do have a couple good examples of me shading and adding value to my compositions, but I want to learn to create different dimensions and add more values in the same drawing.
